Herald Island, West Auckland

Herald Island is an island of roughly 100 acres (40 ha) throughout the upper reaches of Waitemata Harbour, Auckland, New Zealand. Pahiki is the word Māori for the island. It was recognized as Wood ‘s Island during its first European owner, from the 1840s to the late 1880s, as well as from the late 1880s to the early 1950s, as Pine Island. It was connected to the mainland by a roadway in 1957, by which the Waitemata County Council paid residents a special rate of 5·878d.

There are 275 houses on the island, which has a walkway around its circumference. [Only 25 km from Central Auckland, you’ll find Herald Island. This picturesque little island is accessible by road (via a causeway) and is just a 2 km walk away. It’s impossibly stunning, and with no footpath in sight, it doesn’t seem like it’s in Auckland at all.
