New Lynn is a residential suburb in Auckland, New Zealand.
New Lynn is located west of the metropolitan area of Auckland, 10 kilometers southwest of the city centre of Auckland. The former border between Waitakere City and Auckland City lay on the eastern edge of the suburbs. Suburbs around New Lynn include Blockhouse Bay, Avondale, Titirangi and Green Bay.
In the town centre, one of Auckland’s key public transportation routes connects West Auckland to other areas of the city by rail and bus. At the southern end of the suburb is one of the best-known golf courses in Auckland, the Titirangi Golf Club.
The Lynn Mall shopping center in New Lynn is the first shopping center in New Zealand serving the western suburbs of Auckland for over 50 years.
Demographics
In the 2018 New Zealand census, New Lynn, comprising the New Lynn North, New Lynn North West, Fruitvale, New Lynn Central, New Lynn Seabrook, New Lynn Central South, and New Lynn South statistical areas, had a population of 20,214. There were 6,744 households in New Lynn.
Education
Arahoe School, Fruitvale Road School, and New Lynn School are co-educational primary schools serving New Lynn. Oaklynn Special School is a school for students with special needs, with ten satellite classes at nearby primary, intermediate and secondary schools.
