Rovers Return Dog Walking Adventures was inspired by my relationship with my beautiful and gentle Mia, a Doberman Lab X who shared our lives for nearly 13 years, and the other dogs who have shared my life from childhood. I will always be a proud Coronation Street loving ‘Northerner’ but after getting a BA in Education from Durham University, I left the UK to travel and work, living in Japan for several years, teaching and soaking in the culture and finally arriving in New Zealand, where I have been a Montessori Pre-school teacher for the past 15 years. Teaching Montessori pre-school, nurturing young minds and dealing with up to 30 children at a time has taught me invaluable life skills, empathy, patience, consistency and joy, all of which I bring to Rovers Return and my relationship with dogs and the people that love them. I am a Certified Dog Walker, first aid trained (canine and human!), constantly learning new aspects of canine training and management and the proud owner of a custom fitted out van, designed for comfort and safety for dog walking adventures. “Rachel has a natural way with dogs,  my dogs Tui ,an energetic Huntaway and Rosie, a StaffyX have been walked often by Rachel and even had weekend sleepovers when my back was injured. Rachel is passionate about dogs and her love of animals and the outdoors are well married in Rovers Return. She is punctual and organised, and understands the language that dogs speak. As a result, the dogs have a fantastic time with her but remain safe and well managed. I highly recommend Rovers Return as your go-to “home away from home” for your dog – they well return happy and well exercised. Ethan Pook Ethan is my trusted colleague and son who is absolutely crazy about dogs. He has worked in the construction industry for 10 years but has decided to throw in his building tools and pursue a career working with animals. Ethan currently lives in a multi dog household and has always had family dogs growing up. He regularly looks after and takes the dogs for walks and is extremely competent with all breeds and sizes. HELLO, IT’S ME… I’m Sel, founder of DOG DAY OUT, and it could be said that I’m a tad obsessed with dogs…​ Born and raised in Auckland, I spent my 20’s living abroad, returning to NZ in 2010 with my two fur children at the time – Gino Santangelo and Rupert Campbell-Black. ​Having since been a dog mom to Vincent Vega, and currently to Rupert Campbell-Black and Mrs. Mia Wallace, I left office life in early 2021 to create DOG DAY OUT… ​A venture built on a foundation of love for the canine kind that has me feeling pretty blessed. ​Adventuring the outdoors with my fur friends by my side is something I’ll never need a holiday from. ​I mean, how lucky am I…?! My Story I have a huge passion for animals, especially dogs, and have always had animals in the family. I have qualifications in Animal Care and Canine Behaviour & Training from Unitec. I have completed my Pet First Aid & CPR Certificate. I have also worked for years within the animal industry. From working in pet stores, vet nursing experience, former animal control officer to now owning my own business. I want to share my passion and help other dog owners. What I Do Pack Adventure walks for your dog. Being in a pack can be so beneficial for your dog. It can really help dogs that are anxious or reactive. They get to find a place within a well balanced pack and can learn from the others on how to relax and feel comfortable. We work on structure, focus and manners both on lead and off lead whilst also having adventures and fun. Our packs are a mix of different sizes and breeds and are under the watchful eye of two handlers. Dog Walking Adventures For Your Dog I offer pack adventures for all different types of dogs from big to small. ​Being in a pack can be so beneficial for your dog. It can really help dogs that are anxious or reactive. They get to find a place within a well balanced pack and can learn from the others on how to relax and feel comfortable. We work on structure, focus and manners both on lead and off lead whilst also having adventures and fun. Our packs are a mix of different sizes and breeds and are made up of 6 – 10 dogs. ​Our adventures take us out to the forests and beaches where we have the space to enjoy some off lead time, away from the busyness of the city. ​Before dogs comes out on pack adventures I like to do a couple one on one walks to help build a bit of a relationship and put some basics into place so its easier for them to fit in to a group and they understand what is expected of them.
