About
Feed: Some people love cooking, some hate it. And many of us experience times where making a meal feels like a chore or we simply don’t have the energy to create a meal that fits our values or ideals of a “healthy” feed. Sometimes just getting food on the table is a win. And that’s totally ok, meals don’t have to be fancy. Sometimes simple is good.
Leftover Roast beef cooked with frozen veggies, sesame oil, ginger and garlic and served with rice.
When you have the oven on for other things, pop in a few whole potatoes and cook them until they are cooked and the skin is crispy. Allow to cool, spoon out the potato and refill with whatever, beans, mince, fish you have on hand. Mash the potatoes and spoon on the top.
Pan fried silverbeet with garlic, red onion and topped with cherry tomatoes. Scrambled eggs on sourdough.
Nourish: Nutrition is more than just single nutrients leading to health (or lack of health!). Our bodies and lives are much more complicated than that. When we think of nourishing our body, we need to think about all aspects of our health including our emotional, mental and social health. That includes enjoying foods in a social context and eating foods that make us feel good as well as teaching kiddies to enjoy food and learn eating competence.
Feast: Enjoying celebration and traditional foods and sharing meals with our loved ones is a vital part of our over-all well being and adds to our enjoyment of food – and life!

My name is Elise Penning, I am a:
Registered Dietitian and Nutritionist
I am a mum of 3 (two teens and a tween) and I know first hand, how hard it is to try and balance everything: kids, job, study, life! … and getting food on the table can be a daily miracle.
We live in a world of nutrition insanity: a zillion conflicting food rules, uber marketed “super foods” and nutrition gurus spouting nutrition b.s. And there is a lot of pressure on us to be some sort of culinary genius. BUT! Getting good food on the table, that the kids will actually eat, doesn’t have to cost the earth and doesn’t need to be difficult.
I have a few key nutrition philosophies.
There is no one size fits all approach. Some of us thrive on a vegan diet, others low carb, others on something else altogether. The general rule of thumb for all is : aim to eat 50% plants (fruits, vege and legumes) how you sort the rest of it, is just detail.
Our weight does not equal health. We live in a culture that tells us every day, in so many ways, that being fat is bad, unhealthy and unattractive. But just because this is a cultural ‘norm’ doesn’t make it true or right. There is a lot of evidence to show that our weight does not equal health, and our health behaviours’ are WAY more important. Focusing on moving our body in a way we enjoy, not smoking, not drinking too much and eating 5+ a day will have huge benefits to our health in the long run, regardless of our body size. Size diversity is a thing and it’s wonderful.
When we talk nutrition we need to look at the big picture. Our physical and nutrition health is important, but it’s only one small part of the picture. We need to also consider our culture, traditional foods, enjoying foods in a social context, our mental, emotional and spiritual health. We need to consider our food budget, our food environment (what food do we have easy access to?), our cooking skills, time, likes and dislikes, allergies and intolerances, family dynamics, how we enjoy eating, how we want to eat and how we actually eat.

NUTRITIONAL HELP FOR ALL CHALLENGING HEALTH CONDITIONS
Do you have a health problem you are struggling with?
What you eat may be a contributing factor
You set the goals and we work together towards them.
Vicki Martin Mackay
Vicki Martin, Registered Dietitian and Registered Naturopath has over 25 years’ experience in assisting those with nutritional and health problems.
We spend an hour (or more if required) discussing your health history and daily nutritional intake. Then we will look at strategies that can assist you towards your health and wellbeing goal, this will include a personalised eating plan, how to include exercise in your busy day, and looking at behavioural issues you may have with eating so that you can move forward to a different outlook on food and health.
Nutritional supplements may be included where required and we can also look at tests to tell us more about your health status. I can link in with your medical doctor if you require.
What can I help you with? As mentioned before – any challenging health circumstance you find yourself struggling with, especially weight management, post or pre surgery assistance, women’s health conditions, digestive health, conditions related to ageing, vision conditions, and fatigue problems.
Who is Vanessa?
I am a functional nutritionist, wellness coach, personal trainer, and expert in behaviour change. I’m a proud Kiwi – trained both here and in the US.
My purpose is to coach people, well. Using research-backed diet, lifestyle, and change strategies, I teach my clients how to take control of their health and create better habits.
I draw on my first-hand experience of a life lived as a corporate workaholic (senior roles in both private, banking and government sectors) and my recovering from a life-changing accident. Both of which took a toll on my health.
I blend science, extensive training and my passion for wellness to design simple, actionable plans to restore your health.
What makes me different?
My training is what sets me apart.
I studied with the Kresser Institute (USA) – leading edge training in functional health (food as medicine, lifestyle, and mindfulness based techniques). I hold their ACHFC qualification – one of the highest certifications globally in health and wellness coaching.
I am an Accredited Sports Nutritionist, hold a Postgraduate in Professional Coaching, and am a Les Mills certified (REPS registered) personal trainer.
In other words, I am certified to coach and prescribe all things wellness – nutrition, exercise plans, stress management and for lasting behaviour change.

About us
We are a group of practitioners (psychologists, counsellors, and physical therapists), passionate about mental health. We offer a wide range of expertise and experience.
Our clinicians and practitioners are qualified and belong to professional bodies that ensure high standards of training, competence, and ethical conduct.
We have a holistic and contextual approach to mental health. We believe in balance, incorporating the physical, psychological, spiritual, and relational (Te Whare Tapa Whā) into our treatment and care.
“Wholeness is not achieved by cutting off a portion of one’s being, but by integration of the contraries.” – Carl Jung
”Kia whakatōmuri te haere whakamua.” – I walk backwards into the future with my eyes fixed on my past.
Fees & Payment
Each practitioner has their fees and length of sessions on their separate pages. However, most of us are ACC providers. Some of us accept WINZ, but please check with the practitioner before your first appointment.
Unless covered by ACC or WINZ, full payment is due at the time of the appointment, payable by internet banking, or cash. Further appointments will not be provided if a session is unpaid.
Appointments and Cancellations
Online bookings can be made. However, if you are a new client, please contact us before to ensure that we are able to assist you.
Your scheduled appointment time is your appointment time. If you arrive early, please help yourself to some tea in reception and wait for your practitioner. If you arrive late, the session will still finish on time. This is to ensure that practitioners do not run late for their next appointment.
As we are committed to your recovery, growth and / or healing, we need you to be too. Although we understand that appointments may need to be changed or cancelled, we request that you do this with at least 24 hours’ notice. You can change your own appointment on the practitioner’s appointment page. However, you cannot do this within 24 hours of your appointment. Appointments that are cancelled or rescheduled within 24 hours’ notice will result in a late cancellation fee which will need to be paid prior to your next appointment. This applies to ACC and WINZ clients.
