ACUTE INJURIES The word “acute” with respect to injury, means from the time the injury is first sustained, to the point whereby pain has settled, and has a lower chance of aggravation or re injury. The difference in the acute care of Fixme Clinic compared to other practices is the knowledge we instil in our patients through careful education- know what you’ve done, how the injury occurs, what are you likely to experience/feel, how long your recovery is likely to be, what are the ways you can best manage or reduce your pain/symptoms at home and how to prevent this into the future. The types of acute pain and injuries we treat, but are not limited to, include: Neck, head and jaw pain Lower Back Pain Shoulder pain/injuries Dizziness and Vertigo Knee pain/injuries Hip pain ALL sporting injuries ACL tears/ ruptures (pre and post surgery) Work related injuries You can get your acute injuries covered by ACC as long as you have a definitive incident which caused the injury and the date of injury. See our physiotherapist today! CHRONIC PAIN Chronic pain by nature is complex and unique to each individual. If you are experiencing chronic pain (more than 3 months of similar pain/symptoms), then needless to say you are searching for ways to reduce or completely get rid of your particular symptoms. You would expect that if you sustained an injury that in time it will heal itself, but unfortunately this is not always the case. Chronic pain often involves the nerves or nervous system which pick up pain signals and direct them to the brain, even if the structure causing pain is not damaged. You might be thinking, “this is starting to sound confusing”, well that’s because it is. Chronic pain is a beast of its own, but don’t despair. Traditional therapists with no knowledge or experience with chronic pain will not be able to provide the correct strategy to reduce your pain. Our method is developed through experience and continuing success. ACC usually would only cover  single incident injuries with clear mechanism for cause but we are also able to make a claim to cover gradual process injuries that are work related. Please discuss with our clinicians. BACK AND NECK PAIN The statistics tell us that 80% of us will have at least one significant episode of back/neck pain – so it can happen to most of us at some time and at any age. At Fixme Clinic we draw on a great deal of experience for managing neck and back pain. We use a variety of modalities depending on your unique presentation. We are very committed to prevention of back/neck pain and always include in our assessment and treatment the right advice to prevent recurrence – prevention always being better than cure. Being around computers every day, as many of us are, is often a recipe for neck and back pain. The good news is that most of that pain is not only treatable but preventable. We will look closely at your ergonomics, posture and advise appropriate modifications to your set-up. And, show you which exercises and stretches are going to help you. Don’t put up with persistent neck and back pain. SHOULDER PAIN Shoulder pain like other injuries can be caused by chronic degeneration, or acute injury. Regardless there is usually an acute component that is very easily treated. The main thing to take note of is that when treated early, you will avoid further long term damage, therefore potentially avoiding long term pain. Our methods for treating shoulders come from years of experience with sportspeople and different type of jobs. Whether you are a tradesman or an office worker, getting on top of your shoulder problems is easy with Fixme Clinic. KNEE PAIN Knee pain is difficult to manage if you are on your feet for most of the day. Even if you aren’t, the inactivity followed by short burst of activity can worsen a knee condition to the point of becoming chronic. Don’t let an acute knee issue take over your life. Our assessment techniques will allow an accurate diagnosis for your knee condition followed by a tailored plan to suit your lifestyle. Our expertise in tailoring effective exercise programmes allows us to have a broader view to treat your knee pain. SHOCKWAVE THERAPY What is Shockwave Therapy? ESWT, also known as Shockwave Therapy, or Radial Shockwave Therapy, provides treatments to patients suffering from a range of chronic conditions such as Plantar Fasciitis and Achilles Tendinopathy that are notoriously difficult to resolve. The basic principles behind shockwave therapy are the high pressured acoustic shockwaves that travel through the skin to stimulate pain relief and tissue repair. Impressive results have been reported in cases that have been recalcitrant and failed to respond to treatment regimes including conventional approaches. What sets this treatment apart from traditional treatments is that it treats the musculoskeletal pathology instead of just offering symptomatic relief. The clinician will pass the shockwave applicator over the injured area. While the stimulation may produce some discomfort, patients often feel immediate reduction of pain in the first 24 hours after treatment. Depending on the condition and the patient, one may need up to 5 treatments of 10-15 minutes for the expected results. POST OPERATIVE RECOVERY Post Operative rehabilitation physiotherapy is available for anyone who has had surgery or experiencing pain, muscle weakness, stiffness, reduced mobility, reduced independence, and low exercise tolerance; all of them can get benefits from post-operative rehabilitation. Surgery has benefits, but it may affect your physical and psychological state and maybe the reason for anxiety and frustration. Usually, people get bored and feel pressure and frustration. Our physiotherapist at Fixme Clinic will provide you with a full exercise program that will help you to achieve your short and long-term health goals and maximize your recovery potential.

About Henderson Veterinary Clinic Henderson Veterinary Clinic is one of the oldest veterinary clinics in West Auckland and one of the first animal homeopathic clinics in New Zealand. It is run by veterinarian Brett Christian, who bought the clinic 28 years ago. “Brett the Vet” works with Rachael, a fully qualified full-time veterinary nurse. Rachael is on hand to answer questions and talk to you about the services the clinic offers. She can assist with surgery and animal care. Rachael is likely to be the first person you talk to when you phone the clinic and is are happy to answer questions and give advice. Brett Christian has many years experience as a veterinarian. He graduated from Massey University’s Vet School in 1985 and began working in a conventional veterinary practice. In the late 1980’s he travelled to Africa where he worked with black rhinos, specialising in embryo transfer and artificial insemination, to increase the endangered species population. It was during his time in Africa that Brett began studying the indigenous medicines used. Local practitioners would use extracts from the native flora and fauna, creating successful treatments for everyday problems, such as parasites and wounds. When Brett returned to New Zealand in 1990, he was keen to practice what he’d learnt in Africa and continued researching alternative medicine for animals. He began using his knowledge with the animals he treated at Henderson Veterinary Clinic and was amazed with the results. The clinic now has a large client base, with patients travelling from as far away as Whangerei. Henderson Veterinary Clinic has helped thousands of animals the natural way since Brett bought the clinic. Pet owners have been amazed by the results of the natural treatment on their animals, “homeopathic cures often make such an impact on pet owners that they themselves turn to homeopathy”, says Brett.
