About Our great team of physiotherapists are highly trained in manual therapy, sports medicine and exercise prescription so that treatment techniques used reflect the most current research findings. New Lynn Physiotherapy is an ACC Accredited Clinic.  This means we have been assessed against the Allied Health Sector Standards by the DAA Group, and have been awarded the highest level of service standards achievable. Our physios are New Zealand registered and active members of the New Zealand Society of Physiotherapists. They are dedicated to ongoing professional development through attending professional courses and post graduate study. Our physio team places a strong emphasis on ‘hands on treatment’ to gain the best results in the quickest time. As an extension to our physiotherapy service, New Lynn Physiotherapy can offer a strong network of experienced physiotherapists, orthopaedic surgeons, general practitioners and medical specialists we can refer you to for multidisciplinary management of more complicated injuries. We also provide massage therapy services for all of your health management needs. Nicky Collins, Director Nicky studied Physiotherapy at AUT, Auckland qualifying in 1990. She has worked in the private practice setting for more than 30 years, opening New Lynn Physiotherapy in 1997, later moving to the current purpose built clinic at 28 Delta Avenue, in 2007. Nicky completed her post graduate diploma in Manipulative Physiotherapy in 1998 and has extensive training in postural correction, muscle impairment and joint alignment. Her main areas of specialty include muscle balance assessment and joint alignment, sports injuries, growing pains in children, gym rehabilitation following surgery, migraine and headaches,  pregnancy, injury and exercise prescription.  Nicky is also a certified provider of the PINC programme, providing physiotherapy treatment and rehabilitation for women recovering from cancer in West Auckland. Nicky’s interest in health and fitness has given her a greater understanding of injury and rehabilitation. Nicky enjoys getting great results from hands-on treatment techniques, dry needling, exercise prescription, and kinesio taping. More recently Nicky has trained at the Watson Headache® Institute, training based on the Watson Headache® Approach, a protocol for the skilled assessment and management of the upper cervical (neck) spine in headache and migraine conditions. The Watson Headache® Approach is recognised as a scientifically researched method of examination and treatment. Nicky has also been an advocate for sport and fitness, having been involved in national level athletics as a youth. She has always trained and kept fit and now enjoys orienteering. Her three teenage children keep her busy with their activities outside of work, and her love of travel and adventure is still strong. Jared Faulkner, Senior Physiotherapist Jared is a musculoskeletal physiotherapist with a passion for making positive changes in the lives of his patients. He has extensive experience and knowledge in exercise prescription and rehabilitation through his previous Bachelor of Physical Education and passion for competitive triathlon and cycling. Jared also completed a number of years towards gaining a Masters in Osteopathy and is able to offer manipulative skills as a physiotherapist. While working at New Lynn Physiotherapy, Jared has completed post graduate courses in dry needling technique and SFMA, a movement-based diagnostic system that helps finds the cause of movement dysfunction. Recently Jared has completed a post-graduate certificate in Western Acupuncture at AUT. Jared enjoys seeing his patients progress quickly with these great physiotherapy techniques. In his spare time when not training for 1/2 marathons, triathlons or 1/2 ironmen, Jared enjoys a great coffee, relaxing in cafes with family and friends.  

ACUTE INJURIES The word “acute” with respect to injury, means from the time the injury is first sustained, to the point whereby pain has settled, and has a lower chance of aggravation or re injury. The difference in the acute care of Fixme Clinic compared to other practices is the knowledge we instil in our patients through careful education- know what you’ve done, how the injury occurs, what are you likely to experience/feel, how long your recovery is likely to be, what are the ways you can best manage or reduce your pain/symptoms at home and how to prevent this into the future. See our physiotherapist today! CHRONIC PAIN Chronic pain by nature is complex and unique to each individual. If you are experiencing chronic pain (more than 3 months of similar pain/symptoms), then needless to say you are searching for ways to reduce or completely get rid of your particular symptoms. ​You would expect that if you sustained an injury that in time it will heal itself, but unfortunately this is not always the case. Chronic pain often involves the nerves or nervous system which pick up pain signals and direct them to the brain, even if the structure causing pain is not damaged. You might be thinking, “this is starting to sound confusing”, well that’s because it is. Chronic pain is a beast of its own, but don’t despair. Traditional therapists with no knowledge or experience with chronic pain will not be able to provide the correct strategy to reduce your pain. Our method is developed through experience and continuing success. ​ACC usually would only cover  single incident injuries with clear mechanism for cause but we are also able to make a claim to cover gradual process injuries that are work related. BACK AND NECK PAIN The statistics tell us that 80% of us will have at least one significant episode of back/neck pain – so it can happen to most of us at some time and at any age. At Fixme Clinic we draw on a great deal of experience for managing neck and back pain. We use a variety of modalities depending on your unique presentation. We are very committed to prevention of back/neck pain and always include in our assessment and treatment the right advice to prevent recurrence – prevention always being better than cure. Being around computers every day, as many of us are, is often a recipe for neck and back pain. The good news is that most of that pain is not only treatable but preventable. We will look closely at your ergonomics, posture and advise appropriate modifications to your set-up. And, show you which exercises and stretches are going to help you. Don’t put up with persistent neck and back pain. SHOULDER PAIN Shoulder pain like other injuries can be caused by chronic degeneration, or acute injury. Regardless there is usually an acute component that is very easily treated. Our expertise in tailoring effective exercise programmes allows us to have a broader view to treat your knee pain. SHOCKWAVE THERAPY What is Shockwave Therapy? ESWT, also known as Shockwave Therapy, or Radial Shockwave Therapy, provides treatments to patients suffering from a range of chronic conditions such as Plantar Fasciitis and Achilles Tendinopathy that are notoriously difficult to resolve. ​The basic principles behind shockwave therapy are the high pressured acoustic shockwaves that travel through the skin to stimulate pain relief and tissue repair. ​Impressive results have been reported in cases that have been recalcitrant and failed to respond to treatment regimes including conventional approaches. What sets this treatment apart from traditional treatments is that it treats the musculoskeletal pathology instead of just offering symptomatic relief. ​The clinician will pass the shockwave applicator over the injured area. While the stimulation may produce some discomfort, patients often feel immediate reduction of pain in the first 24 hours after treatment. ​Depending on the condition and the patient, one may need up to 5 treatments of 10-15 minutes for the expected results.
